Choosing the right soil

The vast majority of homeowners will have at least one garden.Whether it is a small herb pot on the windowsill or a sprawling vegetable plot in the back yard. Those need good soil

The success of a garden – no matter how large or small – depends heavily on the quality of soil used as the foundation.
Gardeners use different types of soil for their plants, and understanding the differences is key to success.

There are many factors to consider when choosing this, such as climate, type of plant, and level of maintenance.

You can visit our yard in Wilton and purchase a bag, bulka bag or have our truck deliver loose tip soil to your site anywhere in Sydney.

Here is a quick rundown of the types of soil Wilton Landscape Supplies can offer you.

Top soil blend for new lawns and garden beds
01

Top Soil

A blend of sand, soil and fertiliser. This is used for new lawns, new garden beds, areas affected by soil erosion and lawns with heavy traffic.

It can assist with drainage and is useful for correcting soil pH levels.

Free-draining garden soil for existing garden beds
02

Garden Soil

An excellent choice for gardeners who want their soil to be free draining and have a neutral pH level.

Garden soil is the right option to add to existing garden beds as trees and plants will thrive because it contains a blend of nutrients and compost. It is not suitable for pot plants.

Turf underlay mix for laying new lawn
03

Turf Underlay

This consists of medium to coarse washed river sand mixed with heavier soil to help hold moisture and provide good drainage.

Composted matter from green waste and animal manure is added to help balance pH levels. Apply turf underlay to a minimum depth of 100 mm.

Potting mix blend for container plants
04

Potting Mix

This is specifically blended with ingredients such as compost, composted wood, peat moss, sand and organic nutrients such as composted poultry manure and worm ingredients.  It helps container plants with drainage.

Cow manure for garden beds and lawn feeding
05

Cow Manure

Great for feeding soils, assists with moisture retention and soil aeration, maintains soil structure and provides optimum growing conditions. A great all-purpose fertiliser, it can be used as a topper for lawn grass seedlings and added to landscaping, gardens and house plants.

Chook poo (poultry manure) for improving soil fertility
06

Chook Poo

Also know as poultry manure contains high levels of nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium, all of which are essential nutrients for plants. Not only does chook poo make your plants grow big and strong, but it also helps to improve the soil fertility and water retention.
