Wilton Sand & Soil

Gypsum

Gypsum

Gypsum, also known as Clay Breaker, is a soft sulfate mineral composed of calcium sulfate dihydrate.

It is widely mined and is used as a fertiliser. It is the main constituent in many plasters, blackboard chalk, and wallboard forms. In the construction industry, gypsum is used as an ingredient in mortar, tile adhesives, and grouts. This can also be used as a soil conditioner or as an additive to irrigation water to improve plant water uptake and reduce soil leaching losses.

Gypsum is also effective at controlling the release of water from the soil, making it an ideal soil conditioner and fertiliser.
